The Final Push! LAST 24 HOURS and 150% FUNDED!!
Hello everyone! We're in our LAST 24 HOURS on Kickstarter, and at the time of writing, are 150% funded!
If you've been watching the campaign, or missed the first email, we hit our target on Day 6 and since then have been climbing steadily past our first SIX stretch goals! We can still hit the Rogues' Gallery, but now's the time to get in for a final push.
Here's what we've unlocked thus far:
Not sold? What else has been happening?
Well-- a lot actually!!
We just unlocked the SIXTH stretch goal - WITCHES VS. THE WORLD!
Can your favourite Scrabdacklian beat out the others for extra time in the spotlight? More details on the Kickstarter update post - but this event is LIVE so get in NOW!
A new megaboss was added to the game mid-campaign:
The Waking Fossil was added as the first superboss of the game - and the reception has been incredible! The demo was downloaded just over 2,000 times during the past month alone, and the boss has been VERY warmly received as not just 'tough but fair', but also a ton of fun to battle against!
Scrabdackle was featured in 11 videos, 2 articles, and a podcast!
At least - I lost track at some point. There's actually too many to list anymore!
A few notable callouts: We got a Let's Play by Wanderbots early in the campaign, and an article by Alpha Beta Gamer midway-through. Both big content creators I followed before I started this project! Crazy!
(The full list, or at least all the ones I caught, is on Kickstarter in the update posts!)
We ran a community giveaway for hitting 100%!
We gave away three 'design your own something' Kickstarter content rewards - one landmark, one character, and one creature, all in a crazy "Hunger Games simulator" raffle on a 90-minute stream battle royale!
Over 200 people joined the Scrabdackle Discord!
We're sitting at a cozy 430 or so folks right now, and the community has still managed to keep that cozy feeling despite having nearly doubled in a month! You're of course welcome to join us as well!
We've been running TWO suggestion-based adventure games!
Peanut Wizard has been running in parallel on Twitter (as an image-based suggestion game) and on Youtube (as a text-based poll choice game) for a month, and has gotten pretty wild!
Join in by following Jake on Twitter, and following 2 Left Thumbs on Youtube! They're starting to wrap up, but it's not too late to get in and influence the story!
We hit the first secret community stretch goal: A design contest!
With the chance to create anything they wanted for Scrabdackle, 21 community members threw their hat in to design something for the game, voted on by the community! With 105 votes, we narrowed it down to three finalists, and then did a random draw to choose our winner! (Frogbo won, out of the pictured three finalists below!
And seriously, even more - I wrote game design articles, pushed out tons of behind-the-scenes peeks and timelapses, and even made a 15-minute devlog on level design for Youtube!
I'll put those below, but before you keep scrolling, one last ask - please, check out the campaign on Kickstarter and help me make it the best game I can in these final hours!
This is my second and final mailing list push now that the campaign's wrapping up - thanks for your time and support, everyone.
And finally, the wrap-up - the video embed didn't work on the last email, so they'll just be links.
- Creating invisible tutorials through level design (video)
- How I added pages of depth to my game with a lore system (article w/ gifs)
- Drawing Batnik (art timelapse video)
- "The many hats of solo game development" (video interview with 2 Left Thumbs)
- How I staged a trailer backwards on purpose to tell a better story (and solve a pacing problem) (article)
- Making non-linear progression fun (while avoiding the pitfalls) (article)
- How to build a lore system (article w/ gifs)
- Waking Fossil boss timelapse over 3 years (video via reddit)
- How I hand-animated the opening cutscene directly in the Godot game engine! (video comparison + writeup)
Um, and I honestly think I'm still missing a few. It's been a wild month.
