103% funded and counting!

100%, and onwards!

Wow, I am genuinely speechless. Actually, this happened almost 12 hours ago now, and I still don't know exactly what to say.

To the community of fans that has formed around my silly little scribbly game: you have my deepest and realest thanks. While becoming a full-time independent gamedev is a dream that is now a reality for me, I don't know that I'd ever wanted to have done it alone, and the supportive, wholesome, hilarious community that has formed around the game and expanded to genuinely just enjoy hanging out with each other doing non-Scrabdackle things is so special and important to me. Making my demo public in September, making a discord server for a community to gather around, going for a Kickstarter at all - these are all steps that people I met through this project and who are now close friends encouraged me to do. I was never doing this alone.

To all the friends and family that have supported me while I've had little time for anything but the Kickstarter and little to say about anything but the Kickstarter for like 6+ weeks ongoing: Thank you so dearly for that endless support and for putting up with how out of it or distracted I've been, and all the social events I've had to miss or leave early due to either Kickstarter tasks or being too exhausted to stay online. I am looking so forward to being more alive and present for you.

To my partner, personally: I have no idea how you have dealt with the rollercoaster that has been Jake's Mood at all the past two months, much less continuing to be so caring, supportive, encouraging, and understanding. This project has been life-dominating and you have been behind me propping me up every step of the way. You are the unsung hero of the game, and I can't possibly express my gratitude enough for everything we've gone through together for this.

There was this incredible moment last night where we ended up about $700 from the target, and a ton of people in the community went and shifted their pledges up a little bit just to carry across that line in another hour without even new pledges coming in to cover that distance. I'll genuinely never forget that memory. I don't know that I've ever been surrounded by more support in my life.

Truly, thank you.

So what's next, Jake?

Stay with me. We still have a LOT happening.

Stretch goals? Secret content releases? Surprise community giveaways? Cross-promotional events? Maybe even other stuff I can't talk about yet? We still have 24 days of wild ride left ahead, and we're going to put them to good use!

The road to Stretch Goals!

Remember this graphic? Here we are again!

Our first Stretch Goal in our sights is Beyond the Bounds of Magic, unlocked at 110% funding.

What awaits behind the locked cellar door in the academy tower? Delve below the wizard academy to the restricted underground laboratories to challenge a calculating new foe, discover components for an experimental magic spell, and reveal the truth behind a mysssteriouss asssociate and the lab’s abandonment.

This Stretch Goal was one of the hardest to pull from the core game and stretch-goal-ify to bring down our target. To me, it's really the other half of the core game's Wizard Academy region - you'll get a lot more history here, and a clearer understanding of what the wizards are as a culture and their heritage past the current state of academic life. I'm also going to have some real fun with the dungeon that this unlocks. Let's see if we can't make that happen!

Secret Content Update, coming March 30th!

On March 30th, halfway through the campaign, I'll be dropping a secret content update. What is it? You'll have to watch my twitter for hints being dropped leading up to that update.

I can tell you it's something the game doesn't have yet, that there's one hint as to its location in the current demo, and that it uses a track on the game's OST not yet used anywhere in-game.

Until then... keep your eyes peeled.

Announcing a Discord community giveaway: The Hungry Games!

On Thursday March 25, at 7:00pm EST, the Scrabdackle Discord Server will be hosting a special community giveaway.

I'll be giving away Creator Rewards: One Landmark, one Background Character, and one Creature. Winner gets first pick, second place gets second pick, and third place gets the remaining reward.

What do I mean by 'first place' and 'second place' in a raffle? Because it's not going to be any old raffle. It's going to be a Hunger Games simulator showdown using the BrantSteel Hunger Games simulator web tool. This ain't your grandnut's giveaway 😎

This event isn't for marketing or fundraising - it's just to reward the community that's been behind the game on the long road from September to 100% last night. For this reason, eligibility is going to be restrictive to the below:

  • You must be a member of the Scrabdackle Discord Server
  • You must be the 'Berble Buddies' role on the Discord Server. This will give you access to the #hungry-games channel.
  • Lastly, you must say "I volunteer as tribute" in the #hungry-games channel on the Discord Server to opt in. (I'll lock new tributes one hour before the event, at 6pm EST, to have time to set up the sim)
  • The sim is played with intervals of 12 participants, so if we have (eg) 50 tributes, I will randomly draw it down to 48 tributes as the nearest interval of 12.

If you'd like to join but currently aren't a Discord server member: Please join us! We're a very welcoming and fun community, even at over 300 people now, and there's lots more to do than 'just' talk about Scrabdackle. If you're new to Discord, you'll need to create a free account first.

If you're a member of the Discord server but aren't a Berble Buddy: This role is one that we give out to anyone who hangs out and chats here and there over 2 or 3 days. Meaning, if you'd like to get in on the giveaway but haven't joined the server, or are still very new, or have been quietly lurking for a long time, all you need to do is participate a little in some conversation in the next few days! We give these roles out very generously, and it's a low bar to clear.

If Discord isn't your thing, that's okay too! There are still community stretch goals further along the track that will not be Discord-exclusive. This isn't a planned promo, it's just an event I decided last night I wanted to do for the community that has given me so much.

Peanut Wizard updates!

► Put on cone, declare self "Witch of the Waters"

Our Peanut Wizard "Consider Yon Options Available" suggestion-driven stories have been proceeding daily!

In the Twitter image-story edition, the Peanut Wizard has successfully found a hat and staff and flooded the village.

In the Youtube text-story edition, the Peanut Wizard has gotten lost in their own village and bought 2 maps to un-lose themselves with maximum efficiency.

Join in by following Jake on Twitter, and following 2 Left Thumbs on Youtube!

...and more! Seriously, MORE!

Some cross-promotional events are being planned with other indie game Kickstarters launching over the next few weeks, and I'll be announcing those here as well as streaming their game demos on the Discord server. (Have I said Discord server enough yet in this post?? C'mon Jake).

There may or may not also be some other unexpected campaign surprises in the works, as well as updates with more background about the world that I'd planned on writing instead of these updates back when I didn't think my first two updates would be "wow, 50%!" and "wow, 100%!" 😂

Stay tuned, stay amazing, love you all.

Jake
