If you can't get the Mac version to run, it's because the binary lost its executable bit. Open the Terminal. cd into the directory where Scrabdackle.app is located. Then do `chmod +x Scrabdackle.app/Contents/MacOS/Scrabdackle`.

After that, click to open the app as normal. You will see the message saying "you can't open because it's not verified..." Then go into Security & Privacy and click Open Anyway. From there, it should all start working.

(+1)

Hi! I tried downloading this game on my mac, but for some reason (though I'm the owner) it says: "You do not have permission to open the application “Scrabdackle”." Does anyone know how to fix this? It's been happening to a bunch of games I've downloaded from itch.io...

I don't know how to fix it, sorry. I've heard of a lot of general problems with Macs not being able to run games that weren't compiled on a Mac themselves due to overprotective authentication design - apparently Steam has a way of authenticating Mac builds, but it isn't something widely available to other platforms. Wish I could do something :/

You might need the itch.io app.

If you allready have it and still have the problem, go to system preferences>security and privacy>I would like to open app.....(something similar) accept {and/or} allow apps downloaded form: App Store and identified developers

(+1)

Right click on it, then press "Open" if you were directly clicking in your dock, then it will ask for confirmation. Click "Open". Otherwise, go to System Preferences, then go to "Security & Privacy" then you should see something that says it was blocked and a button to open it anyway. Click on that.

This should work, because i have been able to run it.

jakefriend.itch.io is not an identified developer, so it will take about 3 mil downloads for this to be easier.

Only 2,993,500 to go! 😆🤞

Turns out this doesn't work, but it will still be easier to open after the 3 mil downloads.

Actually amazing (even doe i can't even beat the first boss)

+ It's made with GODOT!!!

Haha, appreciate that! The boss is a bit on the hard side for a first boss, but easier than you'd expect once you get familiar. Try to match the boss' strafing during the run-and-gun phase; if they're moving clockwise, try moving clockwise as well. The mid-health attack is quite hard to dodge but it only happens that one time! If you've having trouble with that one, you can actually dodge more easily by moving slowly to avoid running out of dodge room too fast. Hope that helps!

Thanks!

nice game!

Excited to see this project come to full fruition! Keep up the good work

Will there be classes to choose from in the final version? Like fire, water, ice.

Not so much classes, but definitely a wide variety of spells and utility abilities. The plan is for someone to have any 3 spells selected at a time, out of >12ish planned. So you can choose your own kit out of options that are largely balanced, with some asymmetry.

should I get 64  bit or 32 bit?

(+1)

this art style is so cute :o :)

Really fun game, but is the demo meant to save between sessions? I found 5 stars and closed the game to take a break, but when I re-opened it all my progress was lost :c

ETA: I used the in-game save checkpoints and everything.

(1 edit) (+1)

Sorry, the game doesn't have true save files right now. I'll add some messaging in the game to indicate this - I'd thought of it as a one-session demo and hadn't thought to advise players of that. Apologies for that surprise!

Edit - As of early December, the demo now has a proper savefile :)

i can't open the game on linux

Not sure I can help you troubleshoot that, I haven't heard of other Linux users having any difficulty with launching so I'd assume it's a local issue.

I get an error installing the Linux version: "No manager for install"

(+1)

Ah! Finally! I found the time to play updated version!

I cant open the game because my operation system (win10) says its a virus and even when i click „Open despite it” game isn’t running

Are there any solution of my problem?

(+1)

Hi Ari, I can't control that unfortunately. I'm signing the file on export, but if your computer has any stricter security settings enabled, that may just not be enough. I haven't taken any steps to acquire a formal signed certificate but that's something I might be able to look into in the future.

(+2)

one of the characters look like totoro

(+2)

Wow! It's beautifully game!

(+4)

I've done it...I have toppled the government. The infrastructure of our society now hangs from the frail branches of chaos. Without our four-sided ruler, how shall we prevail? And at the behest of a simple peanut man...so arbitrary are the facets of life, foresight would seem a prudent necessity, a true mark of wealth among the commons...yet here I stand, empty of purse, bits upon the dirt floor, poorer than all.

(+1)

You lost me with the comment text but I loved the video! Some of the things you noticed have since been fixed (there's been several updates since the version you played) but really glad you enjoyed, thanks for sharing! The boss fight is only part of the demo though; there's still plenty of secrets hidden around still 😉

(+1)

OhhohHO! I'll be on the look out. ;{)

I'm glad you enjoyed my lil' video! You're doing some awesome work, keep it going!

(+2)

Very nice art. what program did you use to draw it?

It's all drawn in Aseprite, which is about $20, and IMO the best available program for pixel art whether traditional or cel-drawn. Highly recommended!

(+2)

Did you get inspiration from link's awakening ?

(+1)

Yeah! Mainly the overworld and sense of place.  It'll be more apparent when the world is larger, I think, but it's one of my all-time favourites. Not a direct inspiration necessarily, but definitely one of the leading influences.

(+1)

I was wondering, the bits/gems you can get while exploring, what do they do ?

Currently in the demo there's only one hidden use for spending 200 of them, which is grants a reward that also has no value. In the future, bits will be a general currency for hints, minigames, and some misc interactions.

Maybe other spells too ?

Lots of upcoming things 😉 The demo's pretty bare-bones compared to what I'm building towards. But the demo will eventually have more spells as well, across the next few updates.

Love the art style :D

(+2)

This is an amazing game! I would buy this on steam in a heartbeat. The little lord took me a few tries and was very well balanced. Good Work

(+1)

WOW amazing, i won't hesitate to buy this on steam. The animations are just amazing.

(-1)

what do i do when i get the wand

like when i get it the gui of getting it doesnt go away

(-1)

Hm, that's a new one to me. The event waits until the audio completes (about 3-4 seconds) and then gives a "Press Q" prompt to end the event. Is the prompt not showing up?

1.No, Its not showing up.

2.I can't use my computer audio.

(-1)

That pink dude with a crown looks like TechnoBlade, lol.

(+1)(-1)

INCRÍVEL

(+2)(-1)

love it :D

(+1)

Amazing demo! I got stuck on little lord though.

yes?

(+2)

Rly nice demo! All clear and no bugs, congratulations! Rly promissing!!

(+1)

Played for a bit and enjoyed it quite a bit! I'll return for launch. I'm really impressed that you're tackling every aspect of game design. Keep up the good work!

(+1)

Is possible to play scrabdackle kn mobile?

(+1)

I'm only developing it for PC, presently.

(+3)

Only played a little bit of it but it's really good :D keep up the good work!

(+1)

there were more than 5 stars you could find...

🤔
Were you playing an older version? There was an invisible one I'd left in; it was taken out for 0.3.

(+1)

oh ok probably. Thanks 🙂.

(+2)

This was awesome! I had some trouble defeating little lord but other than that it's great! Can't wait o see what you do with this.

(+3)

This game is amazing. I love the design and clever little details. I didn't see any particular bugs except snake still talking even though it disappeared after giving me the artifact, and trash bandit kinda getting stuck and being unable to move sometimes. Can't wait for the full game. Thumbs up!

(1 edit) (+3)

Oh I'm so excited to watch this! So glad you enjoyed 😄 (The snake disappearing isn't a bug, though, just part of its mystery!)

(+1)

Part 2 is out, you can all watch it if you're interested! It took me about 50 minutes to do everything and see everything, literally every nook and cranny, except I cut it down to 30 minutes both videos combined.

(+1)

Ooh I was looking forward to Part 2! Nice work finding everything :)
